Puerto Morelos – Mexican Beach Resort

Puerto Morelos is a beach resort that lies on the Riviera Maya between Playa del Carmen and Cancun. It started life as a fishing village and there is still much evidence of its humble beginnings. Its great position, with the sea on one side and lush, tropical jungle behind it, makes it a big favorite with holidaymakers. It is only 20 minutes from Cancun but is like a breathe of fresh air compared to this bustling, cosmopolitan resort.

This is the big draw for those who travel to Puerto Morelos. The long stretch of white sand with the Caribbean Sea lapping at the edge is the stuff dreams are made of. Those who visit can either relax under the suns rays and let the world go by or take part in the wide variety of water sports on offer. These include canoeing, boogie boarding, fishing, catamaran sailing, diving and snorkeling.

There is also a coral reef around 500m offshore that is one of several protected marine parks dotted around the coast of Mexico. You can take a trip here from one of the dive shops on the coast and explore the amazing world that exists beneath those crystal clear waters.

Puerto Morelos also boasts some outstanding cenotes where you can swim safely in the fresh water. These cenotes are actually limestone sink holes that are often accessed by fascinating caves.
